Reader Ask: Kai? And what would happen if Micah died before his godly essence was awoken?

Those are all good questions!

Since Kai is now in Naraka would he have to be summoned in order for him to leave (i.e coming to the mortal world)

That’s a pretty good assumption, though I’m afraid this one is a bit of a spoiler. Book 4 will focus on Kai’s situation and how his condition sets him apart from other deceased mortal souls. Just remember, we last left him with Savitr, who’d evidently gone out of his way to find Kai. Savitr has many connections who have extensive knowledge of the soul and healing, so Kai should be in good hands (for now, at least) 😉

What about a would be god like Micah who died before they ascended or more appropriately before their godly essence was awoken, would they take the part of a mortal or would they turn into an atrin, what would their fate in Naraka look like without having their godly essence awoken

Fortunately, there has never been a god like Ezra, nor will there ever be a god like Ezra again (just as there will never be another entity like Kai or Ember). Ezra is Yamuna’s special experimentation, created from desperation, selfishness, and absolute need. We’ll find out how Yamuna was able to go about his creation in Book 4—after she’s recovered from Agni’s attack, of course.

Returning to your question, it truly depends on how far along the godly essence has awoken. Because of the nature of his creation (which we’ll learn about), if Ezra died before his essence could be awakened, he’d be a soul in the Vaitarna River. He’d be wrapped in the deceased mortal soul (still slumbering). Yamuna cannot summon souls from the Vaitarna River like her counterpart, so even if she could manipulate living souls, she’d be hard-pressed to find him. If she cannot find him, one of two things would occur when enough time has passed: either his godly essence will awaken, and he’ll be born similar to what we’d seen in Part III, or the tainted essence of the Reaper will overtake him first, and he’ll be reborn into an atrin.

Clear as mud? 😉 As I mentioned earlier, we’ll be learning more about atrins, souls, and gods in Book 4, so hopefully, that’ll clarify any lingering questions.
