Reader Ask: What did Agni mean by, “You should not have been able to do that” in Book 2?

Great question! And yes, you’re on the right track. At this point in the story, Agni has begun to suspect that Ezra’s ice/cold is not a mortal ability (like his healing). To test that theory out, Agni utilizes his godly powers on Ezra. If his cold ability were mortal, he wouldn’t be able to defend himself against Agni. By Ezra countering Agni’s powers, however, it pretty much confirmed Agni’s suspicions: Yamuna lied to him about Ezra being a minor god (only major deities exhibit unique powers). His anger on the train is directed toward Yamuna and himself. This leads into the Yamuna/Agni confrontation at the end of Book 2, and it carries over into Book 3 as Agni expresses concern over the repercussions of implanting Yama’s Reaper essence into Ezra.
